Firstly, let me introduce you to Iron Bamboo (鐵竹堂) whom released their CD in 2004.
Introducing Michael, Scottie, Jason and Vince ...
Michael Lim: Veteran music producer
Scottie Chen: Spots funky dreadlocks. Spent 5 years learning the ropes from the former.
Jason Wang: underground rapper, also retail trader, selling hip hop clothing.
Vince Chang: Having done stints like English teacher, store clerk and mover.
They are the people that bring gansta numbers to Taiwan with tracks like 'U Can't Kill Me' and 'In Da Club' (nothing to do with 50's number of the same name)
Track 9 - 'Nen Bu Nen' is my personal favorite as it features Wen Lan, (same label by the way) and the song's real soothing and Wen Lan just adds in the flow to the groove.
Vince does a lot of the English rapping for Iron Bamboo and he raps a certain portions of it in French, making it sweet.
Here's the 1st verse for the first track, 'Her Ping Shi Jie'
"And since the day of our birth. Our humble existence on earth.
For some, life is a blessing. For some, it's worse than curse.
But everywhere is war. Children growing in trauma.
Phobias drive us into conflicts. We are fighting each other for bullshit.
No one really gets along. We are all enemies and foes.
We take away each other's freedom. For the most selfish reasons.
Somehow we are all killers. We kill as we're breathing.
Father, please forgive us before we all hurt one another.
When I open my eyes, I see no peace and no love.
I see people die and cry. More tears, more sweat, more blood.
Living under constant danger. It doesn't matter where u are.
Somehow, someone will always be more than ready to start a war.
Some fight for more power. Some fight for equality.
Killing each other for money, resources and territories.
I've seen barrel of guns. And they took away my friends.
Yesterday was history. Tomorrow is mystery."
Their MV 'U can't kill me' was banned from MTV because it's too violent!
How's that for a Chinese group?
It's a wonder why they are not doing any more CDs.
Why the talk about Iron Bamboo anyway?
Have you guys recently heard Pan Wei Bo's 'Gao Shou'?
Did you remember hearing French rapping inside?
YES!
It's VINCE !!
It's real cool to see he's still alive in the music industry!
And of course, then comes to a point where I'll have to say Wilber's album is coming up of age.
My favorite at this point is track 2 - 'Bu De Bu Ai', which features an angelic voice of 弦子 who looks like this :
Well, that's to fufil my and yours curiosity of how she looks like, but her voice is really good.
I really dig into songs that features nice lady vocals.
Examples:
Stan (Eminem and Dido)
Tell Me (Pan Wei Bo and ??)
Nen Bu Nen (Iron Bamboo and Wen Lan)
more to come shortly...
so if you come across any similar songs like these.. tell me k?
Did I mention that it's all worth of your eighteen dollars to buy Wilber's CD?
I think I did.
